Black Peter - Pierre Noir - Schwarzer Peter

The traditional counterpart or devil twin or conjugate other to Saint Nicholas (also known as Santa Claus or Father Christmas). He knows if you've been good or bad.

If you've been good, Santa Claus will bring you presents, if you've been bad then Black Peter will beat you and maybe take you off to be a Spanish or Barbary Coast pirate's moll...

According to The Folklore of World Holidays
In the Netherlands, [Saint Nick] "is accompanied by Spanish blackamoor servants in medieval costumes. They are called 'Black Peters' and carry bundles of switches to beat naughty children." - p. 581.
